Sue Fox, Salonista, is also one of the founders of the Proms at St Judes Literary Festival which is celebrating nine years in 2020. She writes to see if anyone in the Salon community might be interested in the volunteer role of Lit Fest Chair:
” The St Judes Literary Festival is part of the Proms at St Judes Music Festival which will be celebrating 28 years……  The Lit Fest is  June 27/28  2020.  Everything takes place in Central Square NW11 at Henrietta Barnett School either in the hall or the new drama wing.   This year we sold out three events in the hall (200+ tix)   and  most of the events in the  smaller drama studio.
All the money raised from concert tickets and lit fest tickets goes to Toynbee Hall in the East End and the North London Hospice.  We usually raise £60,000.  Wonderful West End Books run our book sales over the weekend – author signings etc.
Vivien Hilson our Lit Fest Chair is standing down in 2020 and we need someone to take over.   The  voluntary job involves contacting publishers  October/November for their advance lists of books – hard back and paper back.    Three of us meet  mid November to sort out the 40 or so writers we will ask…..  Eventually around end February we have a list of 8 events.   We have had eminent writers and interviewers over the years…. can send complete list  – and everyone remarks on how friendly and supportive the Lit Fest is.  We run an excellent cafe throughout thee weekend  for home made cakes, coffees, teas and lunches – the heart of the Festival!      We need someone who is fairly local  as there are meetings with the wider Festival team and the lit fest team.  We have a very good support group who do publicity marketing etc… links with papers (Ham and High) who cover the Festival in June issues.
If anyone is interested,  we would love them to become involved for the 2020 Lit Fest just to see what’s involved.   Our contacts – through Vivien – with publishers is excellent.   No one is paid – not even the writers, but we can cover travel expenses etc…..    will tell you more.   Interested salonistas should   contact Sue  by email:
