If you want to read more widely – to embrace great literature of the past as well as the new – but somehow you never quite get round to it, we can help.

The December 2022 LitSalon Challenge

The Challenge is completely free of charge and you don’t have to join one of our studies (although we’d love you to). We have drawn on nearly two decades of LitSalon experience to suggest a work of prose and a poem for every month of 2022 that we believe will be stimulating, rewarding and relevant to contemporary life. The reading can be fitted into your own schedule alongside all the other demands on your time (we understand the pressures of family and work, not to mention the allure of new books and other cultural pursuits).

Sign up for free and each month we will suggest one work of prose and one poem that we believe you will enjoy. Read either or both! We will email you an introduction to the works with a little background information on why we think they are important and worth reading at this time. We’ll also offer tips to get you through any difficulties – some books are harder than others – and keep you motivated. As with physical training, practice and persistence can help anyone to read more effectively in every aspect of life. You can hear our founder and director, Toby Brothers, discussing the LitSalon Challenge with Hugo Rifkind on Times Radio here.

There will be an online forum for you to share your experiences with other readers and tell us what else you’ve been reading and enjoying. You can also give us feedback on your view of our choices.

Dip in for a month, or join us for the long haul and look forward to a warm glow of satisfaction when we all celebrate a year’s reading at the end of December 2022!
